Carpets are an integral part of any design scheme. But before making creative decisions around design and color schemes, do you need tufting, Axminster or Wilton? Each has different attributes and price points; understanding the products they offer will help achieve the correct aesthetic and lifetime value.

It is built on a huge sewing machine, starting with the base fabric, and then using 1,200 needles to drive the yarn into the base fabric, each needle pierced with a single color yarn. It can be loop pile, if the dough loop remains as it is, or if you cut the yarn, it will produce cut pile, which is more common in commercial settings because it is easier to clean. Tufted carpets provide smaller patterns.

As the most common woven carpet, Axminster has excellent durability and great value. This loom selects individually colored yarn, cuts it and inserts it as a U-shaped piece into the carpet where it needs to be designed. This process provides great pattern flexibility, making it the carpet of choice for complex and large-scale designs.

For many projects, the cost of a fully custom design may be too high, so some carpet manufacturers provide semi-custom or ready-to-weave services, where the library design can be adapted to your own colors from the stock palette.

Wilton woven carpets are also named after the town where the craft originated and are made of continuous threads raised above the backing surface by hooks, making it the most durable carpet. The surface can be done in many ways-cutting, looping (often called Brussels weaving), and a combination of cutting and looping to create a complete pattern. Wilton carpets are made of up to five colors, can reproduce simple patterns, are very durable and stable, and are ideal for narrow applications such as corridors, sidewalks and halls. It is used in the most prestigious professional venues that require the pinnacle of lasting luxury.

If you want to discuss technical issues with one of the country’s leading manufacturers, or seek some friendly suggestions and options, Wilton’s team is always on call. We are happy to provide support and information.
